Information Sheet

Please read the terms and conditions offered when you book counselling with The Bridge Counselling Service.

Sessions

During your first session we will agree on when we meet and length of session. Standard sessions are 50 minutes. This can be adjusted to suit your needs. You can come to see me for as long as you find it helpful.

Sessions will be held face to face, online or by telephone.

If you need to rearrange or cancel a session please contact me on 07578 839779 or at donnagibson@thebridgecounsellingservice.co.uk.

The cost of a standard 50 min session is £60. Fees should be paid by bank transfer prior to meeting.  Cash is also acceptable.

Our session will begin at the agreed time. If the session begins late, we’ll still have to finish on time.

Professional Membership

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work within their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. This can be found on the BACP’s website at http://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/.

Confidentiality

Apart from the exceptions listed below, what we talk about in our sessions will be kept confidential:

  • There is a risk of serious harm to yourself or another.
  • A Court Order is issued.
  • You share information about terrorism, money laundering, drug trafficking or a request for disclosure under the Serious Crimes Act 2007 is made.
  • A request is made by the Police for information about a road traffic accident.

If an issue does arise and where possible, we would try to come to a decision on how to proceed together.

Supervision

I am required by the BACP to attend monthly supervision. This is a way for me to reflect on the work we do together. I will only use your first name. My supervisor is bound by the same level of confidentiality as I am.

Notes

I make brief notes after each session. These are shared with no-one other than perhaps my supervisor. If you would prefer I didn’t keep notes we can discuss this. The BACP and my insurance company suggest I do. This means it might be difficult not to keep some form of record.

Cancellation

Please try and give at least 48 hours notice of any cancellation. I will try and do the same.

If less than 24 hours notice is given or you do not turn up for your session, the session fee will be payable. The fee is payable because I am unable to offer this session to anyone else.

Social media

I have social media accounts for The Bridge Counselling Service and you are welcome to look at them. I will not however communicate through any social media presence. Please note that if you make a comment, your anonymity may be compromised.

Adoption

If you wish to come to counselling primarily to discuss issues around adoption, please be aware that you have the right to access adoption support services. I can help you find a registered adoption support agency should you wish to access a counsellor with specific expertise in this area.

Privacy notice

Details of what information I hold, why and how it’s used, for the purposes of meeting the GDPR, can be found at https://thebridgecounsellingservice.co.uk/ipswich-privacy-notice/.
