At The Bridge Counselling Service we believe experiencing difficulties is part of life and something we all encounter at various points throughout our lives.

We do not believe there is anything ‘wrong’ with you.  Just that you’re wrestling with issues faced by being human.

What gets in the way of living life more fully

  • Relationships with friends/family/partner becoming strained
  • Experiencing a traumatic incident
  • Growing up in an environment which didn’t feel nurturing and supportive or which hurt you physically or sexually
  • Someone you loved or cared for has died
  • Living with chronic illness
  • Feeling stressed at work or as a parent
  • Reaching a pivotal age and not being sure what that means for the future
  • Needing to make a decision but finding it hard
  • Feeling ‘off’ and not being sure why

Emotionally you may feel

  • depressed

  • sad
  • scared

  • poor sleeping
  • irritability
  • lethargy
  • reduced sex drive
  • palpitations
  • brain fog

How counselling can help

Talking with someone who is curious and has a genuine desire to understand and accept you can help you to sift through the thoughts, feelings and behaviours you notice.  As a result, this often leads to a clearing, where things start to make more sense, feelings change, you get to know yourself better and you start to feel less burdened.

Through feeling cared for and supported, you will be able to discover answers and ways forward that work for you because at the end of the day, nobody knows you, your history and what’s helpful or not better than you.  It’s an empowering approach where the power resides within you because you are seen as the expert on you.
